Next Libertadores draw

The round of 16 kicks off the week of August 14, with teams facing off in intense first and second leg matches. The draw for these matchups is set for June 3 in Luque, Paraguay. The final group standings will clear up by June 8, as Gremio still has two matches left.

The tournament will end with the final in Buenos Aires on November 30, where a new champion will emerge, following Fluminense. The draw will split teams into two pots—group leaders and runners-up—with matches drawn freely between them.

Notably, the Copa Libertadores has dropped the away goals rule. Ties will go straight to penalties, except in the final, where there will be 30 minutes of extra time before any shootout if needed.

This year’s tournament is all about direct clashes, showcasing the relentless drive and skill of South American football.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
