Vitinho is on the move! The dynamic right-back is set to make a big switch from Burnley to Botafogo, with his arrival in Rio de Janeiro slated for this Friday to ink a deal that runs until 2029.

This signing wraps up the only remaining formality in what has been a straightforward negotiation over salary and contract terms.

Burnley, however, initially hesitated to let go of Vitinho, one of their standout performers, especially as the English football season kicked off. Coach Scott Parker was notably reluctant to part with him at such a critical juncture.

Despite this, Vitinho’s strong preference for a return to Brazil proved decisive, pushing Burnley to accept a substantial offer of 8 million euros, plus an additional 2 million in potential bonuses. This decision came just in time to exclude him from the squad for the League Cup match against Wolverhampton, underscoring the advanced stage of the negotiations.

Before joining Burnley, Vitinho caught the eye in Belgium with Cercle Brugge, and later, under the guidance of Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht. His move to England in 2022 saw him become a key figure in Burnley’s promotion campaign.

Last season, however, saw him struggle to maintain a consistent starting position, appearing 36 times in a fluctuating role between starter and substitute.
