Last night, during the Copa América semifinal between Uruguay and Colombia, the match ended in violence and total confusion. After their 0-1 defeat, Uruguayan players and some of their fans clashed with Colombian supporters in the stadium stands.

The most controversial incident in this situation involves Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez. Clearly upset by his team’s elimination, Núñez went into the stands and began throwing punches at several Colombian fans.
Videos show the Liverpool player pushing away two police officers before aggressively moving towards an opposing fan. His teammates, including José Giménez, were also involved in the brawl.

According to witnesses, Colombian fans provoked the Uruguayans and their families after the final whistle. Captain José Giménez stated that the players intervened to protect their loved ones, including infants, from the surge of opposing fans moving through the stands.

For more than ten minutes, no police were able to control the situation and restore calm in the stands. CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American football, has strongly condemned these acts of violence that tarnish the image of the game. An investigation will be conducted to determine each individual’s responsibility.
