Cuiabá drew in their visit to Palestino in the first leg of the playoff in search of a place in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana. A valuable draw, not only because it will allow them to decide the tie at home, but also because of what happened in the last play of the match.

In Concepción, in southern Chile, the home side took the lead after 32 minutes of play thanks to a goal from Nicolás Linares. The Argentine midfielder took advantage of a rebound given by the goalkeeper to put the ball into the net.

But half an hour from the end, Deyverson scored the final 1-1. A gross error between the goalkeeper and the defence allowed the Brazilian striker to have the goal at his mercy and he took advantage of it with a precise long-distance shot.

In stoppage time, the Chilean team won a penalty. Joe Abrigo took it, goalkeeper Walter saved it and the midfielder scored on the rebound. However, Peruvian referee Roberto Pérez ended the match after the save and did not validate the goal.

The situation caused confusion on the field. The Cuiabá players were only able to celebrate when they received confirmation from the referee that the match had ended in a draw.

The rematch will take place on July 25th starting at 7pm (Brasilia time) at the Arena Pantanal. The winner of this tie will face Independiente de Medellín (Colombia) in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana.
