Uruguayan football is grieving the sudden loss of Juan Izquierdo. The Nacional defender died of a cardiac arrhythmia during a game against São Paulo in the Libertadores last Tuesday.

Following this, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) has put all matches on pause until next Sunday and announced a period of official mourning.

The player’s wake is set for today, and the Uruguayan Air Force will honor him by transporting his body. The AUF is giving Izquierdo the highest funeral honors, a testament to his role as a valued teammate and skilled player.
