The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published its updated club ranking, in which Brazil has three representatives among the top 10: Palmeiras, Fortaleza and Fluminense. Verdao is the best placed among those in its country, followed by the northeast cast, while Tricolor is in tenth place.

This list is updated every month, based on the results of each team both locally and internationally. Flu’s recent victory in the 2023 CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup had a great impact on this classification, in which the Rio de Janeiro team had not been part of the top 10 since 2012.

Considering the results of the last 12 months, Verdao still has a wealth of points that allow it to position itself higher than other Brazilian clubs. Fortaleza added units for its great campaign in the Copa Sudamericana, a competition in which they lost on penalties in the final against Liga de Quito. Fluminense, for its part, could be even higher if it added better results to its excellent Libertadores in the Brasileirao.

Who leads the ranking is Manchester City from England, followed by Real Madrid and Al Ahly from Egypt. The only team that separates Alviverde from them is Inter Milan, finalist in the last UEFA Champions League.

The 10 best clubs in the world, according to IFFHS:

  • Manchester City (England) – 296 points
  • Real Madrid (Spain) – 288
  • Al Ahly (Egypt) – 244
  • Inter Milan (Italy) – 241
  • Palmeiras (Brazil) – 212
  • Fortaleza (Brazil) – 211.5
  • Porto (Portugal) – 207
  • PSV (Netherlands) – 200.5
  • Fiorentina (Italy) – 200
  • Fluminense (Brazil) – 199
