Fluminense prepares for their upcoming clash against Cuiabá in the Brasileirão and all eyes are on Thiago Silva, who will make his debut this Sunday (21). Mário Bittencourt, the club’s president, expressed high hopes for the veteran defender’s return, seeing it as a potential turning point in a challenging season

“Thiago has been with us for a month, and we’re thrilled about his debut. His experience is vital for us during this difficult period,” Bittencourt shared during the Copa do Brasil draw.

Here’s the reason why Silva is only Malone his debut now despite joining the club in May. The transfer window in Brazil officially opened on July 10, and since this was in the middle of the 16th round of the Brasileirão, the CBF’s Registration, Transfer, and Licensing Directorate (DRT) only allowed the registration of new players from July 11.

Article 10 of the specific regulations for Brazil’s first division states that a new player can start competing in the tournament the day after their name is published in the BID.

Silva’s return to Fluminense, a club where he began his illustrious career, is not just a sentimental homecoming but a strategic move aimed at fortifying Fluzão’s defense. Alongside Silva, Fluminense has introduced three other players—Kevin Serna, Inácio, and Nonato—to enhance the squad.
