The Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro was painted this morning in the colors of Fluminense to welcome Thiago Silva. The defender was greeted by a crowd of supporters before what will be his presentation at the Maracaná.

“I am happy with the reception. The affection on my part is equal, if not greater. Playing for the club of your heart is priceless,” said the former Chelsea footballer. He got off the plane with a cap, a scarf, a flag and a Flu t-shirt and when he left the air terminal he started signing autographs.

“I am very happy to return to the club and for the reception. Despite the hour, I was received by many fans who had not even slept, so it is clear how much love there is and I hope to return it. I am looking forward to going to the Maracaná,” he expressed.

Despite having arrived from England at 5:30 in the morning, there was a party with flags, flares and songs. The fans chanted that he “is the best defender in Brazil” and a song that they dedicated to him during his farewell in 2008 classified him as a “warrior” and “myth.”

The last champion of the Copa Libertadores announced that the presentation will start at 6:00 p.m. (local time) at the Maracaná stadium. The party there will also be total, given the long-awaited return after some 16 years in European football, with a successful career at AC Milan, PSG and Chelsea.

“I think it’s going to be a nice party, like the Fluminense fans have always done. Last year was very nice with the Libertadores. I hope that this year we can celebrate another title,” said Thiago Silva, 39 years old and with more than 110 games for the Brazilian national team.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
