Santos FC’s relegation to Serie B was shocking. It was their first drop from Brazil’s top flight in the club’s 111-year history. The relegation occurred after a 2-1 loss to Fortaleza in the final round of the season.

This defeat concluded a woeful run of five games without a victory, ultimately leaving Santos in 17th place among the 20 teams in the league. Sadly, the disappointment did not stop there.

“Do not concede the opener”

Santos faced their third straight defeat in Serie B, losing 3-1 to Novorizontino last Friday. This loss marks a clear pattern: Santos struggles to recover after conceding the first goal.

In matches where they’ve fallen behind this season—against:

Amazonas,

América-MG,

Botafogo-SP,

and Novorizontino

They’ve lost each time. This string of defeats has knocked Santos from their early lead in the league.

Their defense has been weak, letting in ten goals in nine games, an average of just over one per game. In the last three matches alone, they conceded seven goals.

Looking to break their losing streak, Santos will face Operário-PR this Friday. The game kicks off at 7 PM Brasília time at the Germano Kruger Stadium in Ponta Grossa.

This match offers Santos a chance to regain their form and improve their league standing.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
