Brazilian legend, Ronaldinho, is in financial troubles. And this might make the former star of the Barcelona and AC Milan’s soccer arenas, to lose two prized Brazilian properties to pay off looming tax debts.

The careful gaze of tax authorities now delves into the valuation of his real estate treasures located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. They are also looking into the serene expanse of Rio Grande do Sul, where the properties rest in Rio and the coastal embrace of Xangri-La, a town gracefully stationed some 80 miles south of Porto Alegre, the city of Ronaldinho’s origin.

This unraveling saga commenced in November 2018, a time when Brazilian officials, armed with legal backing, laid claim to Ronaldinho’s luxurious fleet of cars and a gallery of exquisite artwork. The seizures were the aftermath of relentless attempts to extract compensation for alleged fines linked to Ronaldinho.

The preceding month then witnessed the confiscation of his passport, a collateral consequence of a legal tussle founded in illicit construction activities. The revelation of a mere five pounds in his bank account heightened the strangeness of his financial network.

A chapter marked by imprisonment and house arrest on Paraguayan soil.

A cloak of controversy enveloped him as he landed behind bars for a month and later sought refuge in house arrest at the Palmaroga Hotel in Asuncion, the Paraguayan capital. The genesis of this predicament traces back to March 2020, when Ronaldinho, alongside his brother, embarked on an ill-fated endeavor involving a fake passport.

Their ambition to unveil an online casino and a literary creation was woven with deceit, as they wielded doctored passports initially designated for two unsuspecting women.

Incarcerated on his 40th birthday, Ronaldinho’s journey through the path of legal entanglements continued. However, hope came when the brothers relocated to the four-star Palmaroga Hotel, securing a tentative agreement for house arrest.

Roberto, the elder sibling, secured freedom, albeit bearing a criminal record, having pleaded guilty to deploying a forged document. A path to Brazil unfurled, but not without a financial toll; the duo was mandated to disburse approximately £153,000 in restitution. Ronaldinho paid £68,000 of the collective sum, and his brother shouldered the residual responsibility, concluding a chapter in a tumultuous saga.
