Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Richarlison disclosed, “I think the main thing is happiness. I think I managed to find my happiness again. I was feeling a little down, sad… I wasn’t the Richarlison that everyone knew.” He admitted the change was not easy, citing initial reluctance to seek psychological help due to cultural prejudices, especially prevalent in his rural upbringing.
Richarlison explained,
“And it’s something that, as I’m from the countryside and there it’s kind of like that, with ‘I’m not going to do these sessions, because I’m not crazy’, or something like that. Because people from the countryside have this prejudice, my family has this prejudice.”
However, he eventually embraced the need for professional help, which he credits for his significant improvement.
Richarlison’s story underscores the ongoing societal challenges in discussing mental health, especially among men. His honesty and willingness to seek help offer hope and encouragement for others facing similar struggles.
