How did Palmeiras get Aníbal Moreno’s signature?
The quest for a formidable number 5, ignited by Danilo’s departure to Nottingham Forest earlier in the year, became Palmeiras’ goal until the end of the last transfer window. However, the elusive agreement with Racing for Moreno persisted as the Argentine club steadfastly demanded a substantial sum of US$10 million (R$47.3 million).
This comprised a fixed component of US$9 million (R$42.5 million) and an additional US$1 million (R$4.7 million) in bonuses—a financial proposition that Palmeiras, despite their ambition, found to be a bridge too far.
Aníbal Moreno, filled with the desire to don Palmeiras colors, opposed Racing’s earlier rejection. This discontent prompted Racing to extend an olive branch in the form of a salary increase. Along with this gesture, Racing proposed maintaining Moreno’s contractual ties until the culmination of December 2025.
Palmeiras, undeterred by the problem, committed to a structured payment plan of a fixed US$7 million (R$34.4 million) and an additional US$1 million (R$4.9 million) in bonuses to secure Moreno’s services.
In this multifaceted negotiation dance, Palmeiras didn’t confine their vision solely to Moreno. They extended a hand towards Caio Alexandre, a standout talent from Fortaleza. This forward-looking approach signals Palmeiras’ intent for a robust and dynamic presence in the forthcoming transfer market, setting the stage for heightened activity in the approaching year.
