“I told Mbappe at the 2018 World Cup to stop copying Neymar. You are not Neymar!” Evra told Mbappe. According to him, the young French striker should instead return to the game that made him successful when he played for Monaco.
“Be the killer you were at Monaco. Come and get the ball and run after it. That’s your game!” he advised Mbappé.
Evra also gave a personal example to illustrate his point: “When you play with someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, you want to dribble and look good, but you are not Cristiano Ronaldo. I myself, when I played with Cristiano, sometimes I wanted to imitate him, but that was not my style of play.”
