For Palmeiras, August has been a double whammy—tough losses on the pitch and a big hit to the wallet. In just two weeks, the team waved goodbye to nearly R$14 million in potential prize money due to early exits from two major tournaments, the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores.

Let’s break it down: In the Copa do Brasil, Palmeiras managed a win against Flamengo in the second leg of the round of 16. However, the damage from a 2-0 loss in the first leg at Maracanã couldn’t be undone, costing them a spot in the quarterfinals and the R$4.515 million that went with it.
Then came the Libertadores blow. After falling to Botafogo in the round of 16, Palmeiras missed out on another big chunk—1.7 million dollars, or about R$9.2 million. So, within a blink, Palmeiras found themselves R$13.7 million short of what could have been a lucrative August.
Despite these setbacks, the season hasn’t been all losses. Palmeiras pulled in R$5.670 million from their journey to the round of 16 in the Copa do Brasil. Over in the Libertadores, they bagged a total of 3.570 million dollars (R$19.5 million), thanks to solid performances in the group stage and beyond.
With these recent setbacks, Palmeiras is under more pressure than ever to perform, aiming to turn around their season and soften the financial sting of their August setbacks.
