The official announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming the loan of the 29-year-old player, trained in São Paulo, until the end of the current season.

Philipe Sampaio, who recently played for Botafogo, has joined RWDM on loan, strengthening the defensive sector of the Brussels club. This acquisition marks an important step for RWDM, which, like Botafogo, belongs to the Eagle Group of American businessman John Textor, owner of the Brussels club.

A guarantee of experience

With a busy career, the central defender has an impressive total of 208 official matches, during which he scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists. Having played in several European championships, Sampaio left his mark in Russia with Akhmat Grozny, in France with EA Guingamp, and especially in Portugal, where he wore the colors of Tondelas, Feirense and Boavista.

Arriving at Botafogo in March 2022, the player arrives at the Machtens stadium with considerable experience accumulated in various European championships. An expertise that he will try to use to strengthen the defense of RWDM, currently 13th out of 16 in the championship, in search of a rise in the ranking.

RWDM, who will face Ostend on Wednesday evening in the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup, hope that the addition of Sampaio will help strengthen their squad and achieve their sporting objectives this season.

As newly promoted, the club aims to move out of the current 13th place to get closer to the middle of the table, tied on points with Westerlo (11th) and Charleroi (12th), the first outside the red zone .
