The Brazilian women’s selection will have to do without three of its elements against Jamaica during the next friendly matches in June. Coach Arthur Elias had to do without the services of Bia Zaneratto, Priscila and Fê Palermo, all three injured.

Striker Bia Zaneratto, a member of the American club Kansas City, suffers from a foot injury contracted at the end of April with her team. She will be away for several weeks. Her club and national teammate Priscila is also sidelined after injuring her right calf during training.

As for Palmeiras, full-back Fê Palermo had to withdraw due to a ligament injury suffered against Fluminense for the Brazilian championship. Three absences of weight for the Seleção, deprived of its offensive talents.

To compensate for these hard blows, Arthur Elias called on new players. Debinha, teammate of Bia Zaneratto, will strengthen Priscila’s already orphaned offensive sector. Full-back Bruninha playing for Gotham in the United States and Lais Estevam from Palmeiras also received their call-ups.

These reinforcements will have the difficult task of not making the absences felt during the matches against Jamaica, scheduled for June 1 and 4 in Recife and Salvador. These friendly tests will allow the team to perfect its collective game before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Despite the bad luck, the Seleção intends to approach these deadlines with confidence thanks to its new recruits called upon to raise their level. The road is still long but there is hope.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
