Gremio needed to win to maintain the hope of being able to fight until the end for the Brasileirao title and they did so. It was 2-1 at home against Goiás, which with the defeat was relegated to the second division with two games still to play.

The game started in the best way for the visitor, who took the lead in the 28th minute thanks to a goal from Everton Morelli. The footballer took advantage of the fact that the last line of the Tricolor Gaúcho defense came out to press high to beat his mark, stay one-on-one with the goalkeeper and place the ball at the near post.

The local reaction came with a flurry of goals in the second half. At 50 minutes, Luis Suárez got a first-class assist to enable Ferreira, who, lying on the left, faked inside the area and put the shot in to inflate the net.

Six minutes later, it was Franco Cristaldo who took advantage of an unusual mistake by the rival, who headed the ball into his own area and ended up enabling the Argentine. In the air, without letting the ball touch the ground, he took a right hand that went low despite goalkeeper Tadeu’s effort.

Luis Suárez, absolute king of assists

The Uruguayan striker, who played from the start, was unable to convert and remains third in the scoring table with 14 goals. But his new assist makes him now have 11 in this Brasileirao and in that statistic he is the absolute king of the tournament, looking down on the rest of the players from the top.

The Porto Alegre team recovered from two defeats in a row and reached fifth place, with 62 points, four less than the leader Palmeiras. With two dates remaining, they maintain the mathematical chances of fighting for the title and have already secured their participation in the next Copa Libertadores, although it remains to be seen if they enter directly into the group stage or have to go to a previous play-off.

On the other hand, Goiás lost the category and joins Coritiba and América Mineiro, who have also already been relegated to Serie B.
