The tragic floods in southern Brazil affected Arena do Grêmio, which is still inoperative due to damage to the pitch, locker room area, and other areas. Work is being done against the clock to get it ready, with the main goal of having it ready for the round of 16 first leg of the Copa Libertadores against Fluminense, scheduled for August 13.

Meanwhile, its home games have been moved to the Couto Pereira stadium in Curitiba, a city located about 740 kilometers away by highway from Porto Alegre. There, it managed to secure its ticket to the next round in the Libertadores, although in the Brazilian tournament it performed very poorly with a string of defeats, including the classic Gre-nal against Inter.

Grêmio, in the relegation zone, will have a key match in its debut at its new temporary home. It plays against Fluminense, another of the big teams going through a significant crisis that left it at the bottom of the table.

Coach Renato Gaúcho is confident that the return to the state will turn the bad streak of results around. “From now on, we have to turn the page. We only played away from home. From Sunday we will have the affection of the fans. Now it is a new era. Let’s move forward. Let’s continue like this and on Sunday Grêmio will return to the path of victory,” said the coach after the 1-1 draw against Atlético Goianiense.
