Flamengo looked like title contenders after beating Atlético Mineiro 4-2 away in a match for the 14th round of the Brasileirão. Tite’s team has won four of the last five matches and remains top of the table.

Bruno Henrique, on two occasions, Carlinhos and Ayrton Lucas scored for the team from Rio, while Hulk, with two goals, scored for the Galo. The team managed by Gabriel Milito has not overcome its irregularity and is in the middle of the table.

Mengão’s best goal was scored by Carlinhos, who captured a rebound off the post after an elaborate collective play. It was the first goal for the striker with this shirt that he has represented for three months, after a long time in different categories of the promotion.

Just a year ago, the 27-year-old, physically imposing footballer was playing for Camboriú in the fourth division. He then had a brief and very successful stint at Nova Iguaçu, scoring eight goals in the last edition of the Campeonato Carioca, leading the team to the final of the tournament, which they lost to Flamengo.

Carlinhos’s cry also had an emotional flavour, as his mother passed away two weeks ago. This was revealed by the footballer himself, speaking after the victory at the MRV Arena: “I am a guy who never gave up. I lost my mother two weeks ago, I am still in mourning. It is hard, but I have to move on.”

The striker was a starter for Flamengo, with Pedro on the bench to allow him to rest after a series of matches and with Gabigol sidelined due to the certainty of his transfer, although it is still not clear when he will leave or where he will go.
