The first official match of Madrid’s new signings Endrick and Mbappé was not played at home, at the Bernabeu, as the club’s supporters would have hoped, but it still ended in victory and a title for the white armada, to their great delight.

Facing Atalanta Bergamo in the final of the European Super Cup, played this time in Poland at the national stadium in Warsaw, the Merengues have once again confirmed their status as the ogre of European finals. But also their status as favourites.

The meeting

It was with a starting Mbappé on the front of the attack that Carlo Ancelotti’s men started this match. Exit the 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield from last year, it was with a Vinicius on the left wing and a Rodrygo on the right wing, with a three-man midfield, that Real Madrid started their season, and by the same occasion this final.

Not much to report for the first period where the two teams will not really manage to create any chances, with only three shots for the Madrilenians, without any being on target, and two others for Atalanta Bergamo, only from corners.

The second half was completely different and in ten minutes Real Madrid would change the score on the scoreboard twice. Firstly through Federico Valverde in the 59th minute, well served at close range in the box by Vinicius Jr. who had previously put his opponent in a bad mood on his preferred side. The second would be scored by Kylian Mbappé ten minutes later, on a pass from Bellingham.

First title for Endrick… from the bench

In this match, Endrick was able to watch his teammates’ performance from the bench. Although he had hoped to get a few minutes in this final, in anticipation of Mbappé’s exit, it will finally be Brahim Díaz who will come on in place of the Frenchman at the end of the match, while Modric will replace Rodrygo and Güler Vinicius Jr.

In a match where four Brazilians were starters, namely Éder Militão in defense for Real Madrid and Ederson for the other camp, it was therefore without taking part that the young Brazilian star tasted the first joy of a title won with his new team.

This should give him a taste of what his first season at Real Madrid will look like, as Carlo Ancelotti seems to have established a certain hierarchy for his substitutes in attack, where those who were there last year (Díaz, Güler) seem to have the upper hand on a possible entry.

It’s not so easy to be part of the rotation at Real Madrid.
