Faith in God at 41

After departing Cruzeiro two years ago at 41, thoughts of retirement never crossed Fabio’s mind because his faith in God fueled him. Little did he know this faith will win him the Libertadores trophy. In his words,

“I had faith in God that my career wouldn’t end the way my time at Cruzeiro did, that God would open a door for me. But not in my wildest dreams did I imagine that in 2023 I would win the Libertadores, a title that was missing in my career and in Fluminense’s great history. I played in the final in 2009. Unfortunately we didn’t win it. But winning the Libertadores has always been a dream I’ve worked very hard to try and realise.

Repeating Libertadores success at the Club World Cup

To Fabio, realizing “I am a Libertadores champion, with the opportunity to compete in the Club World Cup” is truly extraordinary. But Can Fluminense translate this momentum into triumph at the FIFA Club World Cup Fabio maintains that the team’s commitment remains unwavering.

“I think we have to keep working hard and doing what we’ve done over the last 18 months under professor Diniz. With intensity, giving our best every day, respecting all our opponents, playing our own football. We’ll have to stay focused and give everything for every second during the Club World Cup. It’s a big challenge. Hopefully we can play a great tournament and, God willing, seize the title for our supporters, our idols and the history of Fluminense”

Fabio acknowledged the brilliance of German Cano, Fluminense’s stellar striker, describing him as being in sublime form as as magnificent goalscorer. accomplished some historic milestones. “We’re really happy he plays alongside us.
Cano’s brilliance shines through. Achieving historic milestones, we are privileged to have him as part of our team”.
