Ederson, the dynamic goalkeeper for Manchester City, was honored as the world’s foremost goalkeeper in 2023, a prestigious title bestowed by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). At the age of 30, the skilled Brazilian athlete outshone other celebrated goalkeepers, including Argentina’s Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa and Belgium’s Courtois from Real Madrid.

During the triumphant 2022/23 season, Ederson’s exceptional performance was instrumental in Manchester City’s illustrious Triple Crown conquest, encompassing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League victories. He amassed a remarkable 145 points in the competition, leading the pack.

Close on his heels were Martínez and Courtois, who garnered 76 and 73 points, respectively. Liverpool’s Alisson, another Brazilian talent, also made a mark in the top 10, securing the eighth spot with 19 points.

The 2023 IFFHS ranking showcased Ederson’s dominance as the leading global goalkeeper. The list featured notable names such as Dibu Martínez, Courtois, Germany’s Ter Stegen from Barcelona, Slovenia’s Oblak from Atlético de Madrid, Italy’s Donnarumma from PSG, Morocco’s Bono from Sevilla and Al-Hilal, Alisson, Cameroon’s Onana from Inter Milan and Manchester United, and France’s Maignan from Milan.

The esteemed IFFHS jury, charged with this ranking, is composed of a diverse array of sports journalists and football experts spanning over 120 countries globally. In addition to this accolade, Ederson is a formidable nominee for the Best 2023 FIFA award in the best goalkeeper category.

His competitors include Courtois from Real Madrid and Bono, who transitioned from Sevilla to Al-Hilal. The anticipation builds for the announcement of the winner, which will take place at a grand ceremony in London on January 15, 2024.
