Arsenal have not said their last word regarding Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian midfielder has been a long-time priority target for Mikel Arteta. However, Aston Villa appear unwilling to facilitate a transfer, valuing their player at a reported £100 million.

This staggering amount, recently mentioned by Villa management, sparked debate on TalkSport. Consultants Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist say such a sum seems excessive for Luiz, as good as he is. The Brazilian has certainly achieved excellent performances with the Villans but 100 million seems totally overvalued.

For his part, McCoist believes that if Villa receives a substantial and fair offer for Luiz, the player could be tempted to join Arsenal, a bigger club. However, with Villa’s positive momentum in recent months, Luiz could also decide to stay if the club wishes to keep him. Much will depend on whether Villa will facilitate his departure or not.
Arteta dreams of securing the services of the 24-year-old defensive midfielder, whom he knows well having worked with him at Manchester City. However, the valuation put forward by Villa risks greatly complicating negotiations.
