The Spanish justice system ruled that the trial of Dani Alves, prosecuted and preventively imprisoned for allegedly raping a young woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30 of last year, will be on February 5, 6, 2024.

The Prosecutor’s Office requested nine years in prison, compensation to the complainant of 150,000 euros for the crime of “sexual assault with penetration” and another ten years of supervised or probationary freedom. For her part, the woman who accused the side requested a sentence of twelve years in prison, the same amount of compensation and a restraining order of one kilometer for a decade.

For its part, the footballer’s defense demands acquittal by arguing that the sexual relations were consensual. There is also the possibility of an agreement between the parties through which Alves acknowledges the facts in exchange for a lower prison sentence, something that has not been successful so far, according to local media reports.

Alves will arrive at trial after more than a year in prison

The former FC Barcelona footballer has been detained since January, after voluntarily appearing to testify in a Barcelona court regarding the complaint made by the young woman a few days before. The court made the decision considering that there was a risk of flight and at the end of July he was prosecuted after understanding that there were “sufficient rational indications” to “assume” that there was a physical assault and rape.

Last month the Barcelona Court, which is following the case, denied him a new request for provisional release by warning about the seriousness of the accusations and the possibility that the footballer leaves the country. He ruled that he should arrive at the trial, which will have its first session at 10 Spanish time (6 Brasilia time), in prison.
