In Barcelona, Daniel Alves was sentenced to four years and six months for sexual assault at the Sutton nightclub. Inés Guardiola, Alves’ defense lawyer, made it clear they would challenge the verdict. “At this moment I can only say that we will appeal the sentence. I continue to believe in Mr. Alves’ innocence,” she stated, underlining her commitment to proving his innocence.

Guardiola pointed out that the sentence was lighter than the prosecution’s request, which was between nine to twelve years. “Four years and six months is better than the nine and 12 that the prosecution asked for, but I believe in Alves’ innocence, and we will appeal. We will defend his innocence until the end,” she affirmed.
Judge Isabel Delgado’s decision also included a five-year conditional release and a nine-year prohibition from contacting the victim, along with a 150,000 euros compensation to the woman.
The trial ended on February 7, after three days of hearings and the testimony of 28 witnesses, including Alves’ mother, Lucia Alves. During his testimony, Alves, amidst tears, claimed that the encounter was consensual.
