The complainant in the case for which Dani Alves is being prosecuted for rape requested a sentence of 12 years in prison. This is a harsher sentence than the 9 years requested two weeks ago by the Prosecutor’s Office in the context of the case being processed in Barcelona.

The document presented by the woman’s lawyer also sets the compensation for damages and injuries at 150,000 euros, the same amount claimed by the Prosecutor’s Office. It also requests that a restraining or restraining order be filed against the complainant of one kilometer for ten years after the prison sentence.

The next to submit her letter will be the legal representative of the Brazilian full-back, and according to the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, it is taken for granted that she will request acquittal. This, by supporting the argument that sexual relations during the night of December 30 in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub were consensual.

The start of the trial against Dani Alves

The former FC Barcelona footballer presented himself to testify voluntarily in January and was detained preventively when the justice system considered that there was a risk of flight. At the end of July he was prosecuted after understanding that there were “sufficient rational indications” to “suppose” that there was a physical assault and rape.

Meanwhile, last month the Court of Barcelona, the highest judicial body in that Spanish region, decided to send Dani Alves to trial, although it has not yet set a date while waiting for all the parties to present a document setting out their position on the facts. That same court has already denied the defense three different requests for release by warning about the seriousness of the accusations and the risk of flight.
