Using this data, today at Sambafoot we wanted to analyze the numbers related to Brazilian football, highlighting the clubs with the most followers on social networks currently.

Flamengo, the most followed club in South America

As of mid-2024, the date the CIES Football Observatory study was conducted, there is only one Brazilian team that matches and even surpasses the follower counts of some of the most important European football clubs: CR Flamengo.

With a total of 54.3 million followers on the four main social networks (X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok), Flamengo is the sixteenth most followed club in the world. These numbers naturally also make it the most followed club in all of Latin America and are capable of competing with the figures of clubs established in the European elite or the burgeoning Saudi football scene.

Currently, Al-Nassr has 54.3 million followers, an exact figure to that of Flamengo. Meanwhile, clubs like Borussia Dortmund (52.9 million), Galatasaray (54.1M), AS Roma (36.4), or Ajax (24.8) have many fewer followers than the Brazilian club.

The only South American club that can rival Mengão’s numbers is, coincidentally, another Brazilian. Corinthians follows, but not very closely, with 34.7 million followers, and the next on the list would be Boca Juniors (ARG) with 27.7 million.

According to data from the aforementioned source, Mengão’s 54.3 million followers are distributed as follows across the main social networks:

  • Twitter “X” – 13.5 million followers
  • Instagram – 19.7 million followers
  • Facebook – 13 million followers
  • TikTok – 8.1 million followers
