A scandal has erupted on the sidelines of the 2024 Copa America after the Brazil national team was treated in an unacceptable manner by the security services of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
According to an explicit video published by the sports channel TNT Sports Brazil, the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ernaldo Rodriguez, protested against the treatment reserved for the Seleção upon their arrival at their hotel in Las Vegas where they are staying during the competition.

In the video, a deeply angered Mr Rodriguez can clearly be seen telling Conmebol officials “We are not criminals” after the national team was ordered to enter the hotel through the service entrance at the back of the building.

For the CBF president, this request was totally unacceptable and denigrated the status and reputation of the Seleção, five times world champion and always a serious candidate for victory in each competition. He described Conmebol’s treatment as “disrespectful” towards Brazilian football.
