The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has taken a firm stand by lodging a formal complaint with Conmebol, targeting the referees who oversaw the Copa América match between Brazil and Colombia.
The complaint centers on a missed penalty call involving Brazil’s Vini Jr., an oversight Conmebol later acknowledged as an error.

Yesterday, the CBF prepared a detailed document not just condemning the actions of Venezuelan central referee Jesus Valenzuela and Argentine video referee Mauro Vigliano, but also critiquing the general refereeing standards.

The document highlights inconsistent disciplinary actions, card issuance, and foul assessments, calling for the referees’ suspension.
Further aggravating the situation was the VAR officials’ decision against reviewing a critical play where Colombian player Muñoz made contact with Vini Jr.’s leg.
This incident could have significantly altered the game’s momentum by potentially securing a 2-0 lead for Brazil.
Instead, Colombia equalized shortly afterward, leading to a 1-1 draw that saw Brazil qualify for the quarterfinals as the second-placed team in Group D.
Brazil is now set to face Uruguay, while Colombia squares off against Panama in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The CBF has escalated the issue by also sending the document to FIFA’s arbitration committee, given that the referees in question are part of an international panel.
