Douglas Maicon, the iconic Inter Milan defender, recently drew comparisons between the club’s present team and the legendary 2009/10 squad, known for winning the treble. Maicon, renowned during his six-year tenure at Inter Milan as one of the finest right-backs globally, fondly remembers the 2009/10 season. That year, the team achieved an extraordinary feat by securing the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League, marking a historic moment for the club.

Intriguingly, Maicon observes similarities between that celebrated team and the current Inter Milan lineup. He specifically points out their robust defense and a prolific striker as shared strengths.

Reflecting on the team’s recent achievements, he said,

“Inter are having a good campaign. Last year, they reached the Champions League final when no one believed it possible. This year they brought in a player like Marcus Thuram, which no one expected to be so strong. One thing that reminds me of the 2010 team is the fact that they have a great defense, then up front there is Lautaro Martinez who is a great striker”

Maicon expressed his hopes for the team’s success, saying, “I hope they can go all the way in the Champions League this season.”

Furthermore, Maicon revealed that he maintains close connections with his treble-winning teammates, including a group chat and a video call featuring their former coach, Jose Mourinho. He shared his thoughts on Mourinho’s recent departure from Roma, saying, “He did well at Roma, even won a European title. I’m sorry he left, but he remains a great coach.” This statement underscores his respect and sympathy for Mourinho, acknowledging his coaching prowess despite the recent setback.
