As a result of this feat, the prestigious Golden Eagle medal was bestowed upon Sylvinho by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who hailed him as the first non-Albanian to receive this honor. According to the Prime Minister,
“You (Sylvinho) are the first non-Albanian receiving the Golden Eagle not for what you have done but because you are an Albanian being born. After the Golden Eagle very soon you should accept the Albanian citizenship too”
