The defining moment came when Cikalleshi skillfully converted a penalty in the 25th minute, setting the stage for an intense match. Moldova, resilient in the second half, managed to level the score at 42 minutes through Babohlo’s determined effort.
In the riveting journey through Group E of the Euro Qualifiers, Albania’s leadership shone with 14 points, leaving Moldova behind with 10 points and no chance to catch up in the remaining round. This achievement secures Albania’s spot in the European Championship in Germany next year, marking their second appearance in the prestigious competition after their debut in 2016.
In a post on Instagram, Sylvinho expressed immense joy and pride as Albania secures a place in Euro 2024, realizing the dreams of many. In his words,
“Being able to participate in this moment of joy for the Albanian people is a reason for great satisfaction. My thanks goes out to many people. To the athletes, who understood, supported our idea and always played with soul and heart. To the technical committee members and staff, who have worked tirelessly to take care of every detail at all times. To the leaders and employees of the federation, who have done everything so that we could do our job with excellence”
He then extends gratitude to the federation leaders, fans, and family, emphasizing the collective effort that made this achievement possible. And closes with, “Euro 2024 is here now. Go Albania!”
The path to qualification saw Sylvinho’s team facing formidable opponents in Group E, including the Czech Republic, Moldova, Poland, and the Faroe Islands. With a commendable record of four wins, two draws, and only one defeat in the qualifying phase, Albania now eagerly anticipates their participation in the final round of the tournament.
