Carlos, who signed with Villa from Sevilla for £26 million in 2022, had a rough start. His second game ended with a ruptured Achilles tendon, sidelining him for a good chunk of the season. He made a strong comeback last season, playing 38 games in all competitions, filling in admirably after Tyrone Mings’ ACL injury.
Mings is on track to return after September, and Villa’s defense still looks strong. They’ve got Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres on the team, and Clement Lenglet just came back from his loan at Barcelona.
Fulham’s not just waiting around. They’re still talking with Villa and even looking at other options, including players from the Saudi Pro League. Carlos, now 31, needs to find a place where he can play regularly. That’s crucial for him, especially if he wants to leave his injury issues in the past.
Villa’s firm stance means Fulham might have to up their offer or start looking elsewhere for defensive reinforcements. As the season approaches, they’ll need to act quickly to strengthen their lineup.
Meanwhile, Villa seems prepared to keep Carlos unless they get an offer that’s too good to refuse. With his contract running until 2026, any deal will have to be just right.
