Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has turned a corner this pre-season. Following a year hampered by a knee injury that eventually required surgery, the 27-year-old is demonstrating a significant upturn in form.
His performance against Manchester United last weekend highlighted his resurgence, sparking positive comments from his coach, Mikel Arteta.

Last season proved tough for Jesus, with the injury limiting him to just a few consecutive starts. As the season progressed, Kai Havertz stepped up as Arsenal’s main striker. This season, however, Jesus has come back stronger and more prepared. Arteta has noticed substantial changes in his fitness and mentality. “He’s come back in top condition,” Arteta said, emphasizing the striker’s readiness.
During the off-season, Jesus avoided further surgery. Instead, he focused on recovery and strength training at his old club, Palmeiras, and also sought advice from former Brazilian international Ze Roberto. Missing out on Brazil’s Copa America squad allowed him additional rest and recovery time, which he used wisely to prepare for the new season.
Arteta may adjust Jesus’s role this season. Notably used on the wings at the end of last season—a position he previously held at Manchester City—Jesus’s adaptability could see him play there again. Given Arsenal’s busy schedule, his ability to perform in various positions will be key.
