Arsenal’s victory in Seville had a Brazilian flavor. Well, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus converted the two goals for Mikel Arteta’s team in a tight 2-1 against the Spanish team, for the third day in the group stage of the Champions League. The former Manchester City player was the great figure of the night, so he more than deserved the award for best player of the match.

At the end of the first half, the Palmeiras-trained striker demonstrated his ability to pivot and then took a spectacular pass from the galley for his compatriot, who with speed reached only the rival area, where he eluded the rival goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland to open the marker. Just eight minutes after the break, Gabriel Jesus was again present with a fantastic shot to increase the visiting team’s lead. The host got back into the game with a header from Nemanja Gudelj, but the Londoners held on to the result to take the three points. In this way, they lead group B with six units, one more than Lens, while Sevilla and PSV have two each.

Gabriel Jesus turns on the alarms

Despite his impressive performance, the Brazilian forward caused concern when he left the field in the 81st minute. Arteta’s word after the match will not leave Gunners fans alone  : “He felt something in his hamstrings, so let’s see.”

“He asked to be substituted immediately, which is never good because he is not a player who usually does that at all. We will have to wait and see in the coming days,” said the Arsenal strategist, in dialogue with TNT.

Regarding Jesus’ influence on the victory, the Spanish coach only had words of praise for his player: “You need magical moments in big games and great players who intervene and create those moments, today he has done something special.”

The north London team will return to action on Saturday, October 28, when they host Sheffield United on matchday 10 of the 2023/24 Premier League. In the next few days we will know if Jesus will be available for the meeting.
