The most anticipated moment for Paris Saint-Germain fans is approaching. Another edition of the UEFA Champions League begins, which represents the beginning of a new dream for a club that has longed to be European champion for years. Already without Neymar or Lionel Messi, the French team hopes that the changes made in the summer market will take effect.

Since PSG received a financial injection in 2011, the “Orejona” has become their obsession, which until now has been elusive. Therefore, the pressure on them increases more and more as the years go by and they fail to consecrate themselves. Even so, Marquinhos does not describe this competition as an “obsession” for them.

Marquinhos refers to PSG’s “obsession” with the Champions League

“The Champions League is not an obsession, even though we are competitors. We want to reach the top, but we know that the road is long. We have to work and get there step by step,” said the captain of the Parisian team. Luis Enrique, who took charge of the team this summer after the departure of Christophe Galtier, shares the defender’s thoughts regarding this issue.

“When a club becomes obsessed with something it is never good. You have to have hope and ambition, but obsession never works. We really want to play, to give a lot of joy to our fans, but there is no obsession,” explained the Spanish strategist, who was European champion with Barcelona in 2014/15.

Marquinhos, close to making history in Paris

At 29 years old, the Brazilian defender has made more than 400 appearances in a PSG uniform and is on his way to surpassing Jean-Marc Pilorget’s record (435 appearances). In May, Marquinhos extended his contract with the club until 2028, making it very likely that he will set the all-time mark for himself.
