Cleiton, a regular attendee at Beira-Rio alongside the Caxias do Sul consulate, confessed to dozing off during the previous match. He attributed it to a long trip and a few drinks en route. But, he jokingly reassured everyone that there would be no nap this Wednesday when Inter faced Fluminense in the Libertadores semi-final.
“I go to practically every game in Beira-Rio with the Caxias do Sul consulate. I took a nap in the last game, the team was a little sleepy and I had a few drinks on the trip. But there’s no nap on Wednesday, I’ll be wide awake. Inter will win and we will be finalists in the Libertadores”
Cleiton, a public servant, unexpectedly became a social media sensation due to his stadium nap. Nevertheless, he took it all in stride. The game’s first half mirrored Cleiton’s initial slumber – Inter controlled the ball but struggled to score, and Atlético Mineiro was defensively oriented. In the second half, Atlético Mineiro surged ahead with goals from Hulk and Igor Gomes.
Coach Eduardo Coudet fielded a reserve team, saving the top players for the crucial Wednesday match against Fluminense at 9:30 pm, where a place in the continental tournament’s final was on the line.
