After a disappointing and even worrisome draw in their Copa América 2024 group stage debut, Brazil found their best form in what was possibly the best match of the Dorival Júnior era.

Facing Paraguay in Las Vegas, with the pressing need to win, impress, and score a lot to shake off the bad vibes, Vinicius Jr. emerged as a hero to lead his team to a historic thrashing of the Paraguayan side.

With a final score of 4-1, Brazil is now second to Colombia in Group D, and the group leadership will be decided next Tuesday (07/02).

Brazil 4-1 Paraguay: Vinicius, the hero; Paquetá, crucial; Savinho, consecrated

According to data from the specialized website, SofaScore, Vinicius Jr. was the standout performer in the thrashing of Paraguay. The Real Madrid star, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, revived his claim for the Ballon d’Or after his disastrous match against Costa Rica.

The aforementioned source gave him a rating of 8.2 thanks to his solid offensive (scoring a double) and creative performance.

The controversial Paquetá was once again one of Brazil’s highlights in this Copa América. The scrutinized attacking midfielder had the highest rating in the debut against Costa Rica and, on this occasion, earned the second-highest rating of the match despite missing a penalty.

The West Ham player, who scored a goal and provided an assist, received a final rating of 7.6 points.

Another attacker who shone against Paraguay was Savinho, the player who shone with Girona and who will join Manchester City next season. Savio benched Raphinha and gave Dorival reasons to support this decision in the future.

The young attacker had a solid performance, scoring a goal and playing 72 minutes in which he always knew how to be the protagonist. Only surpassed by the scores of Militão (7.1), Danilo (7.1) and Alisson (7.4), Savinho had a final score of 7.0 according to SofaScore.

Wendell, Marquinhos and Rodrygo, the low notes

Unfortunately, despite the win, there were certain negative notes in this match against Paraguay. Wendell, the starting left back, earned the lowest grade among Brazil’s starters in this match, scoring just 6.6 points.

Footballers of the stature of Marquinhos, Joao Gomes and Bruno Guimarães also had marks in the range of 6, and the great negative surprise was the game of Rodrygo, who added 6.7 units.

Rodrygo had a match to forget with Brazil, coming off the bench in the 79th minute, with just two shots on goal, zero completed dribbles and fifteen lost possessions.
