The semi-finalists, meanwhile, would receive variable payments, depending on their performance at this stage. How much money did Brazil earn from its participation in the Copa América?

With this data in hand, it is possible to determine that the Seleção received a cash prize of around four million US dollars.

After getting through the group stage with relative instability, Brazil was unable to beat Bielsa’s Uruguayan team, losing on penalties with a final score of 4-2.

What does this mean? Brazil only received the initial payment for participation and the second payment, corresponding to qualification for the quarter-finals. Had Brazil made it to the semi-finals, it could have opted for the fourth, third, second or first place prizes.
