Brazil and the United States will play in the women’s soccer final at the Olympic Games, after having played very different games in the tournament. The Seleção qualified for the final phase as third in their group, after one win and two losses, while the Americans are undefeated.
Despite a poor start, Arthur Elias’ team demonstrated their enormous potential by beating hosts France in the quarter-finals and reigning world champions Spain in the semi-finals.
The United States, meanwhile, beat Japan and Germany 1-0 in both matches. They excelled in the group stage, also winning 4-1 against Germany and 3-0 against Zambia.

They have an impressive record at the Olympic Games: they have won four of the seven gold medals contested since women’s football became an Olympic discipline and have reached six of the eight finals at this competition. Brazil, for its part, won silver in 2004 and 2008 and will now seek to win the gold medal for the first time.
For all these reasons, the Americans are the favourites for the final, which will be played on Sunday at 12 noon (Brasilia time) in Lyon.
